A tutorial for parents with some tuning pointers.  Before practice listen to each string.  You may notice if the instrument sounds a little "off."  Most instruments will need a little adjustment during the week between lessons.  The fine tuners are usually the right choice.

If it's been a longer time, if the case has been bumped around or even if the violin has been dropped you may need to tune the entire instrument with the pegs.  

Watch the video for some guidance.  Take care to not over turn the pegs or you may break a string.  And just like I remind my students this is a job only for parents or teacher.
